Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….
Salton Sea : Bombay Beach
No lake covers more acreage in California than the Salton Sea. Once billed as a desert resort for those escaping frigid winter climates, the area quickly declined by the late 1970's following a series of natural and ecological disasters. What remains is an alluring patchwork of communities checkered by the infrastructure of livelihoods that persist, and the ghostly artifacts left behind by residents who've long since moved elsewhere.
Here I found decaying pieces of old dock leading to the water from Bombay Beach.
My first taste of photography was (seemingly ages ago) while taking an intro to photography course. There we learned the basics of shooting, darkroom development, and print with film. In following years I carried my Cannon AE-1 all over the world taking pictures for fun and memories. Upon an introduction to DSLRs, my devotion to photography exploded given the new possibilities I found for manipulating and personalizing images. What feeds this passion is the emotive capacity of art – its ability to evoke strong reactions from viewers. I could spend hours sifting through and losing myself in the work of Eugene Atget or Michael Kenna. I absolutely love their long exposures, how textured skies and oceans soften into a quiet haze in which...
